Why the "new year new me" mentality can hurt your progress.

Updated: Jun 19, 2023

The new year is all about starting fresh and new beginnings. Every year it's all about, "new year, new me" and then starts the gym rush, and the healthy eating for all of 10 minutes.

Why do we always do the same things every year, expecting different results? How about this year we try something different. Instead of new year, new me how about new year, new mindset, new inspiration.

How about we DON'T try to change who we are for the new year.

If we change our mindset on how we do things, why we do things maybe, just maybe we might get different results.

The problem with "new year, new me" is that people try and change themselves into someone they are not. If you are not that person who gets up at 4 am and goes to the gym 5 days a week, don't try and change into that person overnight. You won't be able to keep that up for very long.

INSTEAD, why not change your mindset and rather than trying to turn yourself into a gym crazed person overnight, try just adding some movement into your days.

The mindset you have when you put tons of pressure on yourself to morph into a gym rat over night is very different than when you decide to... go for a walk around the block every night after dinner, for instance. It's much more relaxed, much more, "I can do this, this isn't so bad!" Then you feel great about yourself and you WANT to keep going.

Be honest when you think about getting up at the crack of dawn and hitting the gym hard every single morning, it stresses you out! If you're not used to that and that's not your normal mindset, of COURSE it's going to stress you out and that is exactly the opposite of what you want. You go hard for a minute, it gets to be too much, and then you give up, which then makes you feel bad about yourself.

Change your mindset from "go big or go home." to "steady and consistent". Start small and stay consistent. I promise you, you will get better results than joining the tons of people rushing the gym for the next month.
