3 Diet Beliefs That Could Be Working Against You.

There is a lot of information out there on diets and what you should or shouldn't do and it is really hard to keep track of it all. I don't believe in crash dieting because it just isn't sustainable. Healthy, sustainable habits is where it's at. I have talked to a lot of clients that have certain beliefs that are working against them.

Some of these beliefs?

  1. Healthy food is boring.

  2. You have to starve yourself to lose weight.

  3. Carbs/Fats are bad!

Healthy food is definitely not boring. This is a chance for you to expand your food vocabulary and try new foods, new ways of cooking, new flavors and spices. Get inspired by recipes on the internet or cook books. Healthy food does not have to be boring and you can create some really amazing dishes and still be healthy.

Starving yourself is 100% not how you lose weight. In fact NOT eating enough is actually counterproductive and kills your metabolism so that you actually end up storing fat. This happens because your body believes it is starving so when you do eat, your body stores it as fat for sustenance because it doesn't know when it will get nutrients again. Eating consistently throughout the day will actually kickstart your metabolism and you will start to burn fat.

There are a ton of diets around including the Keto diet where carbs are considered bad or you have the assumption that you cannot eat any fat at all because you are trying to lose weight. The keto diet, yes, works for some people and it is a great short term solution, if done correctly, to losing weight fast. The reality is that carbs give you energy and fats keep you full so having a balanced diet of protein, fats, and carbs is actually the best way. The key is to eat healthy fats, complex carbs such as veggies and potatoes.
